Day by Day Itinerary

This is suitable for those seeking an active adventure with all day trekking, horse-riding.

Day 01 — Fly to Ölgii & Drive to Tavan Bogd Ranger Station


Take a morning flight from Ulaanbaatar to Ölgii in West Mongolia (flights included in the tour). We'll pick you up at Ölgii airport. We take care of everything after you land in Ölgii. We start with brunch at a halal restaurant.


Next, we'll drive west for 5–6 hours to the Tavan Bogd Ranger Station. Experience stunning off-road drives in specially equipped 4WD Land-cruisers. You'll drive across mountain ranges & rivers. The station is at an altitude of 3,000 metres.


Reach the area where the Tuvan tribe lives. You'll visit Tuvan families and experience their culture. Settle into comfortable Traditional Gers for the night.

Offroad Drive to Tavan Bogd Ranger Station



Day 02 — Horseback Ride to Tavan Bogd Base Camp


Today we begin horse riding. The mongolian horse is the ultimate off-road transport. You are exploring Mongolia the way nomads do - on horseback!


You don't need any horse riding experience. Our horse wranglers will provide you a suitable horse & guide you. If you are an experienced rider you can ride on your own as well.


It is a 5–6 hrs relaxed horse ride to Tavan Bogd Base Camp. We'll stop plenty of times on the way. Camels will carry all your gear.


You'll pass pristine alpine lakes fed by sacred snowmelt. Explore the Potanin Glacier and the surrounding high-altitude scenery.

Day 03 — Climb Malchin Peak (4,050 meters)


Climb Malchin Peak today. Malchin Peak rises to about 4,050 meters (13,287 feet). It is one of the five peaks of the Tavan Bogd massif.


Malachin Peak is an relaxed climb that almost anyone can enjoy. Enjoy sweeping panoramic mountain views at the top. Descend back to Base Camp.

Day 04 — Ride Back to Ranger Station


Ride horses back from Base Camp to the Ranger Station. Ride on horseback from base camp to the ranger station through the Milky River Valley. The river rushes beside you, loud and wild. The trail is easy. You can ride or walk, as you like.

Day 05 — Trekking in Dakilbay (Death) Pass


Begin trekking from the Ranger Station toward Bear Valley, crossing Dakilbay Pass (Death Pass). This is the only route linking the high mountain zone to the lake region. Continue into the remote valley landscape. Set up tents and stay overnight at Khar Ayrag Valley.

Day 06 — Cross Death Pass to Bear Valley


Continue trekking today and cross Dakilbay Pass (Death Pass). We'll stop by at the stunning Heart Lake. Then we begin to descend into Bear Valley. Experience the wide open landscapes along the route. Set up tents and stay overnight in the valley.

Day 07 — Trek in remote Uyshik valley


Continue trekking deeper into Aksu Valley. We move through remote mountain scenery. Arrive in Uyshik valley by afternoon.

Day 08 — Trek to Lower Aksu Valley


Continue trekking down the Aksu valley toward its end point. You'll trek following the river. The valley is gorgeous for trekking with its vast open steppe terrain.

Day 09 — Trek to the 3 Rivers Junction


Continue trekking to the junction of three river systems. An incredible location to setup camp - the landscapes open up dramatically.


We say goodbye to our camels carrying our luggage. We'll meet the driving support team here.

Day 10 — Drive to Khairakhti Valley. See Bronze Age Rock Art. Visit Khoton and Khurgan lakes.


Drive to Khairakhti Valley to see ancient rock art and archaeological sites. The rock artwork is here is from the Bronze Age - that's 3000+ years old! Our ancestral artists depicted animals. hunters, archers. You'll also see Balbals. Balbals are ancient stone statues usually carved as human figures, often holding a cup or weapon.


You'll visit the pristine Khoton and Khurgan lakes. Spend time by the lakes. You can also enjoy a refreshing swim.


Continue on to a Kazakh nomadic camp. Meet a local eagle hunter and take part in a traditional “five fingers” feast ceremony. Stay overnight in yurts.


Khairakhti Valley. Swim in the lakes. See Bronze Age Rock Arts.

Day 11 — Real Eagle Hunting Experience


Experience authentic golden eagle hunting. You'll ride to nearby mountains with the eagle hunters. Take photos with the eagle in traditional clothing.


You can also stretch your legs with a hike to Baga Turgen Waterfall. Enjoy the surrounding scenery with your group.


Return to the yurt camp for showers and rest. Stay overnight in yurts.

Day 12 — Return to Olgii. Listen to Tuvan Throat Singing


Drive back to Ölgii, with a stop in Tsengel to enjoy Tuvan throat singing. Continue to Olgii and check in at the hotel. In the evening, enjoy a Kazakh family concert. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13 — Fly Back to Ulaanbaatar


After breakfast, we'll drop you back to the airport. Fly from Olgii back to Ulaanbaatar. The flight tickets are included.

FAQs

I have not ridden horses before? Can I ride in Mongolia?

Yes. We select horses suitable for your riding experience. You don't need any prior riding experience. If you have never ridden before our horse wrangler will guide your horse as well. Many of our guests have never ridden horses before. They loved the experience of riding in the open steppes.


Are there any additional costs?

No, There are no extra costs. We cover everything in the itinerary including meals, transportation, entertainment fees.
