Day by Day Itinerary

Discover best of West Mongolia - horseback rides to Tavan Bogd, glaciers, waterfalls, meet Eagle hunter families, see rock art, nomadic culture, and scenic lake landscapes.


This is suitable for most travellers. You will travel in 4WD jeeps with easy hikes, horse rides. We also have an 8-day extended edition of this West Monglia tour - you'll get to climb Malchin Peak (4,050 meters) with camping.

Day 01 — Fly to Ölgii & Drive to Tavan Bogd Ranger Station


Take a morning flight from Ulaanbaatar to Ölgii in West Mongolia (flights included in the tour). We'll pick you up at Ölgii airport. We take care of everything after you land in Ölgii. We start with brunch at a halal restaurant.


Next, we'll drive west for 5–6 hours to the Tavan Bogd Ranger Station. Experience stunning off-road drives in specially equipped 4WD Land-cruisers. You'll drive across mountain ranges & rivers. The station is at an altitude of 3,000 metres.


Reach the area where the Tuvan tribe lives. You'll visit Tuvan families and experience their culture. Settle into comfortable Traditional Gers for the night.

Offroad Drive to Tavan Bogd Ranger Station



Day 02 — Horseback Ride to Tavan Bogd Base Camp


Today we begin horse riding. The mongolian horse is the ultimate off-road transport.


You don't need any horse riding experience. Our horse wranglers will provide you a suitable horse & guide you. If you are an experienced rider you can ride on your own as well.


It is a 5–6 hrs relaxed horse ride to Tavan Bogd Base Camp. We'll stop plenty of times on the way.


You'll pass pristine alpine lakes fed by sacred snowmelt. Explore the Potanin Glacier and the surrounding high-altitude scenery.


We'll ride back to Tavan Bogd Ranger Station. Settle back into your comfortable Gers.

Day 03 - Explore Khoton & Khurgan Lakes. Five Finger’s Welcome Ceremony.


Drive to Khoton, Khurgan Lakes. Khoton Lake and Khurgan Lake sit side by side beneath snow-capped Altai peaks.


Next you'll head to meet the Eagle Hunters. Enjoy a welcome Five Finger’s Ceremony - a feast! You'll stay with the nomadic family.

Day 04 — Hike to Baga Turgen Waterfall Waterfall. Meet the Eagle Hunters.


Rise up have breakfast. Stretch your legs with a hike to Baga Turgen Waterfall. Enjoy the surrounding scenery.


Return back to the Eagle Hunter family. Today you'll learn about Eagle Hunting. This is a tradition that is passed generation to generation.


The Eagle Hunter shows you hunting demonstrations with their eagle. Feeling adventurous? You can call the eagle to land on your arm as well. Take photos with the eagle in traditional clothing.


Return to the yurt camp for showers and rest. Stay overnight in yurts.

Meet the Eagle Hunters. Waterfall Hike.



Day 05 — Drive to Khairakhti Valley. See Bronze Age Rock Art. Drive back to Ölgii.


Drive to Khairakhti Valley to see ancient rock art and archaeological sites. The rock artwork is here is from the Bronze Age - that's 3000+ years old! Our ancestral artists depicted animals. hunters, archers. You'll also see Balbals. Balbals are ancient stone statues usually carved as human figures, often holding a cup or weapon.


Enjoy a warm lunch by the Khurgan lake. After lunch we'll drive back to Ölgii. On the way we'll stop at Tsengel village to listen to a local throat singer. 


After reaching Ölgii check into the hotel. Have a farewell dinner and Kazakh family band concert in the evening.

Day 06 — Fly Back to Ulaanbaatar


Start the day with breakfast at the hotel. We'll drop you at the airport to catch your flight to Ulaanbaatar. Flight tickets are included.

I have not ridden horses before? Can I ride in Mongolia?

Yes. We select horses suitable for your riding experience. You don't need any prior riding experience. If you have never ridden before our horse wrangler will guide your horse as well. Many of our guests have never ridden horses before. They loved the experience of riding in the open steppes.


Are there any additional costs?

No, There are no extra costs. We cover everything in the itinerary including meals, transportation, entertainment fees.
