Day by Day Itinerary
Day 01 — Fly to Ölgii & Into the Altai Mountains
Take a morning flight from Ulaanbaatar to Ölgii (flight included).
Upon arrival, meet your expedition team and begin a scenic 3-hour overland drive into the Altai Mountains. Cross vast steppe landscapes before arriving at a Kazakh eagle hunter’s summer camp in Shar Gobi.
Settle into traditional gers and enjoy your first evening immersed in nomadic life.

Day 02 — Learn the Art of Eagle Hunting
Ride toward the snow-capped peaks of the Altai and experience the centuries-old tradition of golden eagle hunting.
Learn the fundamentals of eagle handling and observe hunting techniques. Ride alongside the hunter as you witness this remarkable partnership between human and bird.
In the evening, participate in the traditional “Five Fingers Feast” (Besbarmak) with your host family.

Day 03 — Horseback Ride to Khar Lake
Begin your multi-day horseback expedition from Shar Gobi toward Khar Lake summer pasture. Ride across rolling valleys and open grasslands where herds graze freely.
Overnight in nomadic yurts or expedition tents depending on location and conditions.

Day 04 — Ride to Dayan Lake
Continue riding through pristine alpine landscapes to the turquoise waters of Dayan Lake. Snow peaks reflect in the clear waters as migratory birds circle above.
Camp near the lakeshore.

Day 05 — Khoton Lake & Ancient Balbal Stones
Ride onward to breathtaking Khoton Lake within Altai Tavan Bogd National Park.
Discover ancient Turkic balbal stones and burial mounds scattered across the steppe. Arrive at our nomadic base camp where hot showers await.

Day 06 — Toward Altai Tavan Bogd Region
Ride deeper into the Altai Tavan Bogd region. Visit Kazakh nomadic families along the way and experience daily life shaped by mountain rhythms.
Camp in remote alpine wilderness.

Day 07 — Aksu Valley to Bear Valley (Heart Lake)
Ride through scenic Aksu Valley toward Bear Valley. Visit the picturesque Heart Lake, surrounded by rugged ridgelines.
Continue through remote mountain terrain.

Day 08 — Cross Dakilbay (Death) Pass
Cross the dramatic Dakilbay “Death Pass” and descend into the White River Valley. Arrive at the ranger station and stay in traditional Tuvan gers.

Day 09 — Ride to Potanin Glacier Base Camp
Ride toward the majestic Potanin Glacier, the largest glacier in Mongolia.
Settle at base camp surrounded by dramatic ice fields and towering peaks.

Day 10 — Return to Ölgii & Farewell Dinner
Ride back to the ranger station and transfer by vehicle to Ölgii.
In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with traditional throat singing and a Kazakh folk performance.

Day 11 — Fly Back to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and fly back to Ulaanbaatar. End of the expedition.

I have not ridden horses before? Can I ride in Mongolia?
Yes. We select horses suitable for your riding experience. You don't need any prior riding experience. If you have never ridden before our horse wrangler will guide your horse as well. Many of our guests have never ridden horses before. They loved the experience of riding in the open steppes.
Are there any additional costs?
No, There are no extra costs. We cover everything in the itinerary including meals, transportation, entertainment fees.
