Ölgii is the entry point for iconic Mongolian Nomadic experiences. Travellers head to West Mongolia for authentic Nonadic experiences, trekking in the Altai Mountains and Golden Eagle Hunting. Flying is the the best alternative to multi-day overland to save time in days.
Flights sell out around October during the popular Eagle Festival. Book ahead to get tickets. Prices also jump 2-3X closer to October. Flight disruptions are possible during Winter flights (late Oct to March) when there is heavy snowfall. Airlines might change to nearby airports if landing is not possible in Ölgii & shuttles are arranged to take you to the alternate airports. If you are travelling in winter months keep track of announcements form the airlines.
Ulaanbaatar → Mörön (North Mongolia) – access to northern lakes, Lake Khövsgöl, Reindeer tribe and cross-country Motor-biking

Flight duration: ~1 hour
Mörön is the key access point for Lake Khövsgöl, one of Mongolia’s most pristine lakes. The wide open grasslands also make it a popular starting point for cross country motorbiking tours.
The route is well-served year-round.
Ulaanbaatar → Dalanzadgad (South Mongolia) – access for Gobi Desert

Flight duration: Approximately 1 hour 5 mins non-stop.
This is the most popular domestic route for travellers heading to the Gobi Desert. Dalanzadgad serves as the main gateway to attractions such as the Flaming Cliffs, sand dunes, and national parks in southern Mongolia.
Flights are frequent in peak seasons. You can drive south to the Gobi Desert as well.

Flight duration: Around 1.5–2 hours
Khovd is a hub for southwestern Mongolia and provides access to stunning landscapes and cultural diversity. It is a common stop for travellers combining Altai visits with other natural attractions.
